Oropharyngeal air ducts according to Guedel are used during surgical operations under general anesthesia, in emergency departments and when providing emergency medical care to block the retraction of the tongue and ensure a normal level of patency of the patient's airways. They are distinguished by their compact size, low weight and high efficiency in the most extreme situations.
The Guedel air duct is a disposable, individually wrapped, curved tube made from opaque or clear synthetic materials that do not contain toxic latex.
If its length is too short, it will have low efficiency, and if its length is too long, it may cause injury to the larynx.
For use, the air duct must be selected according to size and removed from the individual packaging. Then you should turn it so that the arc is directed towards the patient's chin and the tip is directed towards his palate. The tip is inserted into the mouth to approximately half the length of the air duct, rotated 180°, and inserted until the flange is at the level of the patient’s lips. After use, the disposable air duct must be disposed of. The shelf life of the air duct according to Guedel is five years from the date of manufacture indicated on the individual packaging of the product.
