Kramer tire - what is it?
The Kramer splint is named after its creator, the German surgeon Friedrich Kramer. Structurally, it is a reusable medical part in the form of a narrow ladder made of steel or aluminum wire, the flexible elements of which are soldered together. Thanks to this, the splint can be given any shape, anatomically following the contours of the injured limb.The Kramer splint is used for fractures of the lower and upper extremities - bones of the shoulder girdle, forearm, hip, ankle, ankles and fingers. In addition, it is used for reliable fixation of the patient’s upper spinal column and head. Immobilization of damaged body elements using a Kramer splint makes it possible to reduce the level of pain and prevent additional damage from occurring during transportation of the patient. The absence of a splint can lead to displacement of broken bones, damage to nerve endings and blood vessels, and an increased risk of improper fusion of limbs.
How to use the Kramer splint?
Kramer tires are sold on the market in two versions:
- for securing the lower limbs - has a size of 100*1200 millimeters;
- for securing the upper limbs - has a size of 80*800 millimeters.
After protection, they must be strengthened with bandages and a splint applied. For closed-type fractures, it is allowed to apply a splint directly to the victim’s outer clothing, but before doing this, it is imperative to straighten all folds, remove interfering buttons and remove foreign objects from pockets. If necessary, the Kramer splint can be bent at any angle for high-quality and reliable fixation of the injured limb.
